– What is Digital X-Ray?
X-ray imaging passes a small, controlled dose of ionising radiation through the body to create detailed images of bones and certain soft tissue structures. Our modern digital X-ray system captures high-resolution images instantly — with greater clarity and a lower radiation dose than conventional film-based systems.
We offer digital X-rays of the chest (PA and lateral views), all limbs and joints (including hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet), and the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Chest X-rays are also commonly requested for pre-operative assessment, immigration medicals, and occupational health purposes.
All images are reported by a GMC-registered consultant radiologist. A digital copy of your images and the written report are available the same day, and sent directly to your GP or referring clinician with your consent.
Common Uses
We offer a wide range of ultrasound examinations. Please specify the area of concern when booking.
Your Appointment
X-rays use a small dose of ionising radiation. The dose from a chest X-ray is approximately equivalent to a few hours of natural background radiation that we are all exposed to every day. The risk is very small and is outweighed by the benefit of diagnosis. All X-rays are justified by our clinical team in accordance with UK IR(ME)R legislation before being performed.
Please inform us if you are or might be pregnant before your appointment. Many X-rays, such as limb X-rays, pose negligible risk to a developing baby with appropriate shielding. X-rays of the pelvis, abdomen or lumbar spine are generally avoided or deferred until after pregnancy unless clinically urgent. Our team will discuss this with you and can advise on ultrasound as a radiation-free alternative where appropriate.
Yes — we frequently perform chest X-rays for immigration medicals, TB screening and occupational health purposes. Please advise our team of the specific purpose when booking so we can ensure the correct views are taken and the report is formatted to meet your requirements.
Yes — digital copies of your images can be provided on a CD or via secure digital download along with your written report. Please request this at the time of your appointment.
In most cases, the written report from our consultant radiologist is issued the same day. You will receive a copy by email and a copy is sent to your GP or referring clinician. For urgent clinical situations, we can prioritise reporting — please advise our team when booking if your results are time-sensitive.
