If you have sutures or staples that need to be removed following recent surgery in the UK or abroad, or following a recent injury, one of our nurses can painlessly remove the stitches for you.
Our nurse will also check that the wound is properly healed and check for infection.
Sutures – A suture is a stitch or a row of stitches holding together the edges of a wound or surgical incision. Sutures can sometimes be called stitches. It is important to care for your sutures to help the healing process. It’s important to keep sutures clean and dry. For the first 2 days, It is a good idea to avoid physical activities that might re-open the wound. Children should avoid activities such as playing in sandpits or mud, riding bikes or swimming. Stitches are generally removed 7-10 days.
Staples – Also known as clips. They enable the edges of a wound or incision to be brought together. Reducing the risk of foreign materials and bacteria entering the body. They assist in holding the tissue in place, which supports the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Removal of clips is generally after 10-14 days.

Cervical screening which use to be called a smear test is now available at Jenhams. We are experienced and friendly nurses at Jenhams Clinic who are able to offer flexible appointments.
All women aged 25 to 64 who have a cervix are advised to have a cervical screening. Cervical screening tests for cervical cancer, including HPV for those aged 25 and over. It’s not a treatment for cancer but it can help early identification of cervical cancer.
What is human papilloma virus (HPV)?
HPV – the human papilloma virus – is a common infection that affects most women during their lifetime. There are over 100 types of HPV. In many cases, your body naturally fights off the infection, but sometimes the virus can cause abnormal cells to develop in the cervix. The only way to catch these cells at a stage before they may develop into cancer is by having a cervical screening test.
Attending for a cervical screening test is an important way to keep track of your cervix’s health. Through screening tests, we’re able to check for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). if it’s found, we’ll check for any abnormal cells that could lead to cervical cancer. The earlier these cells are found, the less chance you have of developing cancer During your test, one of our healthcare professionals will take a sample of cells from the neck of your womb. Your sample will then be sent to a lab and tested for the presence of HPV and, if required, further checks for abnormal cells
If your screening result shows any abnormal cells, we can facilitate a referral for a colposcopy via your NHS GP or privately.
